Letters

To the editor:

In response to letter by Neil D. Cowling

It always pays to read the whole book.

In this case, Luke 22:36 is the verse he was looking for. Jesus said,
"If you don't own an assault weapon, sell something on ebay and buy one."
(my own translation)

Knowing that he was leaving us in a dangerous world, Jesus cared enough to
instruct us to be prepared to resist evil. In this world we enjoy the protection of the local police, county cops, state police and the FBI to protect citizens at every level of society, from the local to the national. It is absolutely reasonable to expect that some sort of armed force would protect us from international evil.

And Jesus asked us to own a sword – the assault weapon of its day. A sword wasn't invented to chop firewood, dig the garden or butter your toast. A sword is designed for slaughter. Jesus thinks you should own one.
